180 km/h on a German freeway

Lunch is my favorite meal of the day. I like small dishes with excellent food. Sorry to say,  but most ‘sandwich shops’ are at the most mediocre.  To counter this downward spiral I couldn’t stop thinking about a small shop I visited often as a young boy with my Austrian stepmom. Tugged away in a small street in Graz – Austria.

Small open face sandwiches topped with the best ingredients you could imagine. Why was something of that quality not in the Netherlands? I literally looked everywhere and asked everyone. Nobody knew such a place. Off course, great lunches everywhere but not a simple exquisite sandwich.

After discussing and advocating my quest with my friends Alexander and Sophia I talked them into a 1200 kilometers drive to the east and visit the small shop in Graz. They must have thought I was an idiot, driving 180 km/h thru Germany and bashing and pounding them with my ideas about sandwiches.

Once we got there we ate the sandwiches i loved so much, and to be honest, it was a bit disappointing. The idea of a luxury sandwich was still there but the quality wasn’t of this age anymore. Or at least our refined taste was used to more complexity. But no harm done, the shop was still a succes and the products could be altered in every direction. And so we did. Lukowitz was founded that day.
